With power in excess of 140,000lbf from both Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 turbofans ensuring a brisk rotation, the crew aboard HiFly’s Airbus A330neo depart Runway 15 at Birmingham on a short positioning flight north to Manchester Airport with HFY771P – having arrived from Pakistan’s Islamabad Airport several hours beforehand, operating a limited number of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) passenger services inbound to the Midlands.

As a result of an investigation into PIA’s pilots – which found over a quarter of them holding fake and non-valid licenses – compounded further by the devastating May 2020 crash of a PIA Airbus A320 in Karachi resulting in 98 fatalities – the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) imposed a ban on PIA operating in Europe until July this year, which has resulted in the airline seeking the use of chartered flights by companies like HiFly to continue operating with authorised crew and equipment.
